After a decade of pooling their money together for lottery tickets, four family members from Brooklyn are finally picking the fruits of their labour. The fortunate foursome matched the five main winning numbers 2, 17, 31, 39 and 47 in the Mega Millions draw on January 19th after using a random series of digits they’ve picked as a team.

“We talk about the numbers and change them all the time. But we always agree on what numbers to play before I buy the ticket,” said Tatyana Zeynalova, who purchased the winning ticket at the Brighton Discount Spirits on Brighton Beach Avenue in Brooklyn.

It wasn’t specified why it took them almost two months to come forward, but it’s possible they were planning how to divide the prize money amongst themselves and what to spend it on afterwards. Zeynalova received a net check totalling to around $310.000, while the other three winners Nina Kochneva, Vladislav Sosunov and Marina Kochneva claimed $103.000 each. They started buying lottery tickets together with the hope of providing a better life for their children, and that’s exactly what they’re going to do.

“We believe our prayers have been answered. We will use the money to help our children succeed by giving them the best education possible,” said Tatyana Zeynalova.
